Tinubu’s Economic Reforms Showing Promise, Says Minister Idris at 2025 Briefing

The Federal Government has reassured Nigerians that the economic reforms spearheaded by the Tinubu administration are starting to bear fruit, despite initial hardships. Speaking at the fourth edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing on Thursday at the National Press Centre in Abuja, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, highlighted early signs of progress. He pointed to a noticeable reduction in food prices, stabilizing exchange rates, and a gradual drop in petroleum product costs as evidence of the reforms’ impact.

“We are already seeing tangible improvements,” Idris declared. “Food prices are dropping, exchange rates are stabilizing, and the cost of petroleum products is gradually declining.” He acknowledged the difficulties these changes have brought, including inflation and rising living costs, but framed them as necessary for long-term prosperity. “We have crossed the Rubicon, and the pains are gradually easing as the benefits of these policies take effect,” he assured, emphasizing that the reforms are critical for Nigeria’s growth.

Idris commended Nigerians for their endurance amid the economic transition, calling their patience and resilience vital to the process. “Meaningful reforms demand sacrifice, but they pave the way for a more stable and prosperous future,” he said, expressing gratitude for their trust in President Tinubu’s vision. The minister also underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering stability and progress, promising that the dividends of these efforts will soon be felt nationwide.

In a call for unity, Idris urged religious leaders to leverage the ongoing Ramadan and Lent seasons to pray for Nigeria’s peace, security, and development. “With unity, faith, and collective effort, we will emerge stronger, more resilient, and positioned for lasting prosperity,” he said. Reflecting on a recent Ramadan Lecture in Kaduna, he reiterated the link between faith and governance, asserting that President Tinubu governs with a deep sense of divine accountability. “A nation thrives when its leaders act with responsibility, and I assure you, history will judge this administration favourably,” he concluded.
