Chelsea claimed a decisive 3-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge, moving into second place in the Premier League. The match saw an uninspiring first half, but Chelsea turned up the intensity after the break, starting with Malo Gusto’s first senior goal in the 51st minute. He converted Alejandro Garnacho’s cross by nodding it past Wolves’ goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, igniting the Blues’ confidence.
Just 14 minutes later, João Pedro extended Chelsea’s lead. After substitute Estêvão provided a cutback that deflected into Pedro’s path, he calmly finished to net his second consecutive league goal. The final goal came in the 73rd minute when Pedro Neto, facing his former team, scored from close range after another assist from Garnacho.
Chelsea dominated the match statistically, controlling 64.1% of possession, registering eight shots on target compared to Wolves’ zero, and amassing a total of 20 shots versus Wolves’ three. The strong defensive display prevented Wolves from creating any chances.
This victory lifted Chelsea to 20 points after 11 matches, leaving them six points behind leaders Arsenal and providing much-needed momentum after inconsistent performances. Manager Enzo Maresca praised the team’s response and the importance of securing three points in their quest for a top-four finish.
For Wolves, the defeat deepened their struggles, leaving them at the bottom of the table with only two points. With Under-21 coach James Collins stepping in temporarily, the team faces a daunting battle to avoid relegation. Collins expressed optimism about the players’ determination to build on the positives despite the loss. Chelsea’s next challenge will be an away match against Manchester City, aiming to maintain their upward trend.
