Cape Town is gearing up for a record-breaking summer tourism season, expecting an 11% increase in international arrivals. The city is preparing for an influx of visitors eager to enjoy its famous beaches, mountains, and cultural sites. To ensure the safety and enjoyment of residents and tourists alike, authorities have devised a comprehensive safety and security plan.

Central to this initiative is the deployment of 136 additional law enforcement officers and 300 cadets, who will be stationed in high-traffic areas such as the Central Business District (CBD), popular beaches, and major tourist attractions. This enhanced presence aims to deter potential criminal activities during the peak season.

In addition to increased personnel, Cape Town is utilizing advanced technology to bolster its surveillance and response capabilities. The existing network of over 200 city-owned CCTV cameras will be supplemented by 300 additional cameras from the private sector, along with drones, body cameras, and dashcams. This extensive surveillance infrastructure will monitor critical areas, including the CBD, Bo-Kaap, Table Mountain, and the V&A Waterfront, ensuring quick responses to any incidents.

Moreover, the city’s strategy emphasizes collaboration among various stakeholders. The South African Police Service (SAPS), neighborhood watches, private security firms, and provincial agencies are all working together to tackle any potential issues.
