Athletic Bilbao has successfully re-signed Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte from Al-Nassr, following FIFA approval of the transfer. This deal was finalized after the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) obtained the necessary International Transfer Certificate from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. Laporte, aged 31, signed a three-year contract that extends his commitment to the club until June 2028.

The transfer faced initial hurdles when Al-Nassr failed to submit the required documentation to FIFA’s Transfer Matching System by the September 1 deadline, leading to an initial rejection of Laporte’s registration. However, after Bilbao authorized RFEF to pursue the necessary ITC from Saudi Arabia, FIFA reversed its decision, enabling the transfer to proceed.

Laporte’s return is particularly timely, as Bilbao has been grappling with defensive issues stemming from the suspension of Yeray Álvarez and the long-term injury of Unai Egiluz. His experience, having made 222 appearances for Bilbao before moving to Manchester City in 2018, is expected to significantly enhance the team’s defensive strength.

During his time at Manchester City, Laporte won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three League Cups, and the UEFA Champions League. After moving to Al-Nassr in 2023, he continued to display impressive defensive skills.

Real Madrid player reportedly set to depart on a free transfer, as disappointing exit is revealed.

Currently, Bilbao sits in second place in LaLiga, having achieved three consecutive victories in their opening matches. With an upcoming fixture against Alavés, Laporte’s inclusion is anticipated to further fortify the team’s defense. His return not only addresses immediate needs but also marks a significant reunion with the club where he started his professional career, bringing invaluable experience and international recognition to the Basque side.
