Exclusive: White House suspects Europe is quietly reversing Ukraine war’s resolution

Recent reports indicate that senior White House officials are concerned that some European leaders, while publicly backing President Trump’s efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict, may be secretly undermining these initiatives. Following a summit in Alaska between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. officials claim that European allies are pressuring Ukraine to seek more favorable territorial concessions, potentially complicating and prolonging the resolution of the conflict. This has led to frustration within the White House, which stresses the importance of both Ukrainian and Russian leaders fully committing to ending the war.

Will European nations actually deploy forces to Ukraine?

One major issue is the lack of a direct summit between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Putin. While Trump supports such a meeting, Russia has so far been resistant to the idea. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt remarked, “Perhaps both sides of this war are not ready to end it themselves. The president wants it to end, but the leaders of these two countries need it to end and must want it to end.”

European officials have responded with surprise to U.S. accusations, highlighting a disconnect between American and European diplomatic perspectives. In light of these tensions, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff recently met with Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, in New York, indicating continued behind-the-scenes negotiations.

This situation illustrates the complexities of international diplomacy and the challenges faced in reaching a consensus among allies on achieving peace in Ukraine, as differing priorities and approaches complicate the path forward.
