Manchester City is reportedly gearing up to make a record-breaking €150 million bid for Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. This Brazilian forward is currently in a contract standoff with Real Madrid, which has a hefty €1 billion release clause, due to his reluctance to sign a new deal. Despite Real Madrid’s firm stance against allowing him to leave for free, club president Florentino Perez is open to extending his contract, but only within financial constraints.

Vinicius Jr. is highly regarded, ranking third among the best left wingers globally, and narrowly missed out on the 2024 Ballon d’Or to Manchester City’s Rodri. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, City plans to make the move in the summer of 2026, with manager Pep Guardiola reserving funds for this acquisition. Guardiola sees Vinicius as an ideal fit for his evolving tactics, especially after losing Kevin De Bruyne, enhancing creativity and goal-scoring capabilities on the wings.

Real Madrid has unequivocally ruled out the option of a free transfer, resisting demands from Vinicius’s agents for increased salary and sporting improvements. However, Perez remains hopeful for a contract extension within the club’s financial limits.

From Manchester City’s perspective, they are holding off on major attacking signings until next summer, intending to offer a more lucrative deal and a compelling project for Vinicius. Guardiola is focused on integrating wide players for creativity, particularly after De Bruyne’s departure.

A potential signing of Vinicius Jr. would not only add top-tier talent but also align with the strategic evolution of Guardiola’s squad, making it a highly anticipated move for the club.
