Born Charles Frank Mangione on November 29, 1940, he began his musical journey early, taking lessons at age 8. His was evident, him to study at the Eastman School of Music. In the 1960s, Mangione joined Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, filling the trumpet chair held by jazz like Clifford Brown and Freddie Hubbard. This experience significantly influenced his development as a musician.

In 1976, Mangione’s composition “Chase The Clouds Away” was featured at the Summer Olympics in Montreal, showcasing his ability to create music that resonated on a global stage.
