Originally released as a limited-edition vinyl for Store in 2025, the album is now available digitally and on CD, featuring 13 tracks that some of John’s lesser-known works.

The album showcases deep cuts from John’s early catalog, “Cage the Songbird” and “Idol” from the 1976 album Blue . These tracks highlight John’s flair for cabaret-style ballads and his expressive vocals. The performance leans into melodic storytelling with like the tender “The Greatest Discovery” and the dramatic “Ticking,” the latter touching on of violence in America. The album emphasizes Bernie Taupin’s crucial lyrical and reminds listeners of the substantial quality and range of John’s work during a period when punk and disco were reshaping the musical .

In May 1977, Elton John embarked on a six-show residency at London’s Rainbow Theatre, accompanied by percussionist Ray Cooper. This marked the first of 233 shows featuring just the two of them on stage. The setlist included live debuts of tracks such as “Roy Rogers,” “Cage the Songbird,” “Idol,” and “I Feel Like a Bullet (In the Gun of Robert Ford).” The performances were stripped back, offering a more intimate experience that has since been regarded as some of the finest of his career.

Elton John his pride in the album, stating, “I’m delighted that Live from the Rainbow Theatre with Ray Cooper will be available for my fans to enjoy. It’s an album I’m incredibly proud of, and listening back to it, I’m astounded by how great it sounds. The freedom I felt playing with just the two of us is something I will always remember.”

The CD and digital editions of the album a bonus track, “Goodbye,” not found on the vinyl . This addition provides fans with a more comprehensive experience of the 1977 performances.
