Troops from the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, alongside those from Operation Safe Haven, have successfully rescued no fewer than 18 individuals from a kidnapper’s enclave. This information was shared by Major Samson Zhakom, the Information Officer for Operation Safe Haven, during a briefing in Jos, the capital of Plateau State. According to Zhakom, the victims have been safely reunited with their families following their rescue and subsequent profiling and documentation by relevant agencies.
The rescue operation took place at the borders of Taraba and Plateau states, where the troops conducted an offensive maneuver. This operation not only led to the liberation of the hostages but also resulted in the arrest of some criminals and the seizure of dangerous weapons, including ammunition and firearms.
In another related development, troops from Sector Five, under Operation Golden Peace, apprehended five bandits at a hideout in the Tarangol area of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State. From these bandits, several items were recovered, including fabricated rifles, 7.62mm special rounds, cartridges, and daggers.
Additionally, these troops also intercepted bandits at Jannaret in Mangu Local Government Area who were allegedly planning to incite chaos in the region. The arrested individuals are slated to be handed over to the appropriate legal authorities for prosecution, with ongoing investigations to further dismantle criminal networks in these areas.
These operations underscore the Nigerian Army’s and Operation Safe Haven’s commitment to enhancing security, rescuing victims, and reducing the operational capabilities of criminals in these troubled regions. The actions reflect a broader strategy to ensure peace and stability, particularly in areas prone to kidnapping and banditry.
