In an interview with GTR Hausa on Wednesday evening, Kano-based legal practitioner Barrister Badamasi Sulaiman Gandu advised Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, to consider leaving the state to pursue his legal rights at the Supreme Court. Gandu’s counsel is aimed at fostering peace and stability within Kano State.

Gandu emphasized the legal implications of the current situation, stating, “There should not be two Emirs in Kano State, especially after the State House of Assembly amended the Emirate Law and the Governor signed it. Furthermore, the Court of Appeal has upheld the legality of their actions.” He argued that Bayero stepping away from the state, or even the country, would allow for a clearer focus on his legal battle without the added tension of local presence.

The lawyer also cautioned the state’s leadership against letting the Emirate dispute derail the developmental agenda of Kano. Drawing parallels with Lagos State, he noted, “Leaders must focus on development rather than being held back by disputes instigated by a few individuals, as Lagos State continues to outpace Kano in progress.”

Gandu highlighted that, according to the law and the recent Court of Appeal’s decision, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II is recognized as the 16th and current Emir of Kano, asserting that the Emirate’s governance is a matter for the State Government.

In his closing remarks, Barrister Gandu hoped for a resolution that prioritizes the welfare and advancement of Kano State, urging all involved to set aside personal agendas for the greater good of the state.
