Manchester United’s manager Ruben Amorim has issued a clear warning to young Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho, emphasizing the need for performance enhancement amid swirling transfer rumors linking him to Napoli. Since being omitted from the squad for the Manchester derby against Manchester City, alongside Marcus Rashford, Garnacho’s position at the club has been under scrutiny.
Although Garnacho has made his way back into Amorim’s team selections, his long-term future at Manchester United remains uncertain. Speaking to reporters, Amorim highlighted Garnacho’s need to adapt to new roles within the team’s tactical setup:
“That is clear. He has talent. He needs to learn to play in a different position. He needs to play better inside,” Amorim stated. He pointed out that while Garnacho has shown improvement in defensive positioning when not in possession, this has sometimes compromised his ability to transition quickly into attacking phases as he did previously.
Amorim elaborated on his tactical philosophy, preferring a collective build-up from defense to ensure the team reaches the final third effectively. He noted Garnacho’s ongoing adjustment to this system, saying, “I prefer to defend and then build up with the whole team to reach the final third. He’s finding the best way to play in this system. He’s improving during training. He started the last game. Let’s see tomorrow. I think he has changed the way he sees himself.”
This statement not only reflects Amorim’s expectations for Garnacho’s development but also underscores the competitive nature of securing a spot in Manchester United’s starting lineup, where adaptation and consistent performance are key.
