In a chilling case that has gripped Nasarawa State, 32-year-old Timileyin Ajayi has been remanded in custody at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Nasarawa State Police Command in Lafia for the alleged murder and dismemberment of 24-year-old corps member, Salome Adaidu. Adaidu was serving in Abuja but was killed during a visit to Ajayi’s residence in the Papalana area of New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area.
Ajayi was apprehended on January 12 while attempting to dispose of Adaidu’s severed head, following which he was paraded at the police headquarters alongside the alleged murder weapons – a knife and several machetes. Injured from a mob attack before his arrest, Ajayi confessed in an interview with Channels Television, citing jealousy and betrayal as motives for the crime. He claimed the act was not premeditated but a reaction to discovering Adaidu’s supposed infidelity through her phone messages.
“I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time, it’s not something I planned. It happened on that day… She was cheating,” Ajayi stated, showing no signs of remorse. He further expounded on his lack of regret, suggesting a twisted sense of justice or reciprocity. However, Adaidu’s family vehemently denied any knowledge of a relationship between their daughter and Ajayi, with her elder sister, Esther Adaidu, and uncle, Samson Adaji Adaidu, emphasizing their shock and demand for justice.
The family’s ordeal was detailed by Samson, who described how Adaidu was not just killed but gruesomely dismembered into over 50 pieces, suggesting preparation for consumption. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed that investigations were ongoing and assured the public and Adaidu’s family that Ajayi would face prosecution upon completion of the investigation.
Despite media labeling Ajayi as a gospel singer, he identified himself as a cryptocurrency trader during his interview, adding another layer of complexity to his profile. This case has not only shocked the community but also sparked a broader conversation about safety, trust, and the dark undercurrents within personal relationships. The Nasarawa State Police Command has called for anyone with additional complaints against Ajayi to come forward, ensuring a thorough investigation into this heinous act.
