Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reiterated their belief in the party’s resilience and reaffirmed its position as a formidable political force in Nigeria.
Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, expressed this confidence during a meeting held in Jos on Saturday. Addressing the media after the meeting, Mohammed acknowledged the challenges facing the party but assured that they are surmountable.
“The Forum notes the concerns of Nigerians, the founding fathers, elders, and members of our great party about the seeming divisions within its rank and file. However, the Forum wishes to state categorically that it remains resolute in its determination to ensure unity and cohesion within the party,” Mohammed said.
He encouraged supporters of the PDP and Nigerians at large to remain steadfast, noting that the current issues were merely “minor setbacks” that would soon be resolved.
Mohammed underscored the party’s legacy as a trusted platform for delivering democratic governance, adding, “This is a party that Nigerians have come to trust as the best platform to provide democratic governance to all; it is still the party to beat.”
As part of efforts to strengthen internal cohesion, Mohammed urged the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) to convene a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) to address ongoing issues.
He also praised the party’s members in the National Assembly for their role in promoting democracy, while calling on the assembly’s leadership to scrutinize proposed legislation carefully to ensure fairness, equity, and balanced national development.
The Forum expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s current economic crisis and called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently review the administration’s macro-economic and fiscal policies. Mohammed highlighted the need to prioritize the welfare and well-being of Nigerians in the government’s policy decisions.
The governors commended Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for hosting the meeting and extended their sympathies to the government and people of Plateau State over the recent fire outbreak at a wood market.
In their closing remarks, the PDP governors reaffirmed their commitment to restoring the party’s unity and fostering development across the nation. They urged Nigerians to continue to trust the PDP as a reliable platform for democratic governance.
