Segun Sowunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, has identified President Bola Tinubu as the primary cause of the party’s internal challenges.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Sowunmi criticized Tinubu for appointing Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) without consulting PDP elders. According to him, this decision disrupted the party’s dynamics and contributed to its instability.

Sowunmi argued that if Tinubu were to dismiss Wike from his ministerial role and facilitate his return to the PDP, the party would regain stability and strength.

“President Tinubu is the problem of the PDP; he has no business taking Wike from our party and appointing him as Minister without talking to us,” Sowunmi stated.

He further compared Tinubu’s actions to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s approach, noting that Obasanjo consulted party elders when forming a government of national unity.

“When Obasanjo wanted to form a government of national unity, he wrote to the elders of the party, but what did Tinubu do? He took one of us and put him in a strategic position, and suddenly the whole thing is complicated,” he said.

Sowunmi emphasized his stance clearly, expressing confidence that the PDP would regain its footing if Wike were removed from the federal cabinet and returned to the party.

“If he wants everything to be okay, sack Wike and return him back to PDP and see if the party will not have stamina and move fast. My position is very clear; I’m not speaking Greek; I explained it and justified it,” he concluded.
