The Ondo State Government has launched the disbursement of N1.4 billion as part of the ONDO-CARES social intervention program, aimed at assisting unemployed youths, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups in the state. This initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to improving the well-being of its citizens through targeted social investments.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, during the official flag-off of the disbursement in Akure, emphasized that the program is designed to provide much-needed financial support to the most disadvantaged in society. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting groups such as the elderly and individuals with physical challenges.
The governor shared key details of the ongoing efforts, revealing that the Ondo State Conditional Cash Transfer Unit (SCTU) has already distributed over N2 billion to more than 7,500 beneficiaries. As part of the intervention, 2,870 individuals currently receive a bi-monthly stipend of N20,000, ensuring a steady source of income for those in need.
Additionally, the Labour-Intensive Public Works (LIPW) scheme, another component of the ONDO-CARES program, has provided financial support to more than 19,000 beneficiaries. This initiative focuses on empowering vulnerable individuals by offering them opportunities to earn a living through public works.
In a bid to further address youth unemployment, Governor Aiyedatiwa announced that an additional 1,000 beneficiaries would be enrolled into the program, expanding its reach and impact. This move is expected to contribute significantly to reducing unemployment and enhancing the economic prospects of young people in the state.
The governor also acknowledged the contribution of the Federal Government through the Renewed Hope Agenda, which has disbursed over N2 billion to 77,000 beneficiaries in Ondo State. This collaboration between the state and federal governments highlights a coordinated effort to uplift the most vulnerable and ensure that social safety nets reach those who need them the most.
With the continued disbursement of funds and the expansion of social intervention programs, Ondo State is demonstrating its dedication to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all residents, especially those facing the greatest challenges.
