In a tragic turn of events, 24-year-old Nurudeen Hammed has been remanded by an Ibadan Magistrates’ Court for allegedly killing his grandfather, Jimoh Oyekola (80), and uncle, Semiu Oyekola (46). The incident, which occurred on September 8, 2024, in the Apete area of Ibadan, has left the community in shock.
Hammed reportedly had a history of stealing from his grandfather’s home. On the day of the incident, when his family confronted him to stop the theft, he allegedly reacted violently. According to the police prosecutor, Hammed strangled his grandfather and fatally struck his uncle with a power bank during the confrontation.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Oluwabusayo Osho, did not take Hammed’s plea due to the seriousness of the charges. The case has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further legal review, and the defendant will remain in custody until the next hearing on November 12, 2024.
If found guilty, Hammed could face severe punishment under Oyo State’s Criminal Law, as he is charged with two counts of murder
